Prof Pam Vallely is Professor of Medical Virology and leads the Virology group at The University of Manchester. She is a member of the Manchester’s Conference Ambassador Programme and Chaired the prestigious Annual Meeting of the European Society for Clinical Virology in Manchester.
 

24th Annual Meeting of the European Society for Clinical Virology 2022

The European Society for Clinical Virology (ESCV) is a non-profit organization and the successor of the European Group for Rapid Viral Diagnosis (EGRVD) and the European Association against viral diseases (ESAVD), which merged into the ESCV on January 1, 1997. Since then, it has provided a forum for virologists, scientists and physicians interested in all aspects of Clinical Virology and human viral diseases.

The 2022 Annual Meeting took place at Manchester Central 7^th-10^th September 2022 and welcomed over 500 delegates from all over Europe. It was the first in-person meeting of ESCV since the pandemic began and, after three full years without a face-to-face conference, provided a welcome platform for attendees to share their unique experiences of being clinical virologists during a worldwide pandemic.
 

The Annual Meeting was Co-Chaired by Prof Vallely and Prof Paul Klapper from the University of Manchester, with the support of an Organising Committee of colleagues from across the UK and a Scientific Committee representing institutions throughout Europe.

Prof Vallely commented: “We were delighted to host such a successful meeting. It was wonderful to be able to meet at last with virologists from all over the world to share our work and experiences in person over a coffee or around a poster board. Everyone commented about the value of those personal conversations and many new collaborations were initiated. It was a great meeting in a great venue”

The meeting presented an outstanding and balanced programme covering the most recent discoveries, innovations and state-of-the-art updates on current areas of interest to virologists. Sessions included the use of Next Generation Sequencing for virus discovery, Viral hepatitis including the recent unusual cases in children, Emerging and re-emerging viral pathogens, Vaccines, Antivirals, Neurological viral infections, Immune response to viruses and of course SARS-CoV-2 and many other stimulating topics.
