Can you tell us about your role at Manchester Convention Bureau?
Working within Manchester Convention Bureau’s bidding team, my role is to promote and position Manchester as the UK’s leading international conference and events destination by successfully bidding for and hosting of conferences and events in Manchester. I manage a portfolio of conference business and clients within the international and national association market, to attract new business tourism opportunities to Greater Manchester.
In addition to conference business, I also support in bidding to host international sporting events within the region, often working collaboratively with local authorities and GMCA. A key part of the role is business development with Greater Manchester’s universities, venues and hotels along with local authorities and funding partners to collaborate and create the strongest possibly bid.
What are you working on at the moment and what would you say are your biggest challenges?
I am currently working on bids for a number of large international conferences to the region which all play to Manchester’s key sector strengths of life sciences, creative, digital and technology and advanced manufacturing – I obviously can’t say too much because of competition! I’d say my biggest challenge is changing people’s pre-conceptions about Manchester from its industrial history. Whilst Manchester has still retained a lot of this history and its characteristics, the city is fast evolving into a modern metropolis. When people visit Manchester for fam trips, they always fall in love with the place.
What book are you reading at the moment? I’m not actually reading anything at the moment. It’s my new year resolution to get back into my kindle more. However, if I am reading something, it’s usually something history related or a biography.
What is your drink of choice? Zombie!
What are your favourite holiday destinations?
I really love anything USA. I’ve grown up going to Florida frequently and experiencing American culture so I’m now starting to branch out more and try new places within the US. My favourite place so far is Miami although I’m taking some time out later in the year to do a mini tour which will take me to 9 destinations across 6 states!
If you weren’t working at Manchester Convention Bureau, what would your dream job be?
I’m a huge Disney fan in every aspect so probably an imagineer at Disney World. Imagineering is the implementation of creative ideas in practical form within the Disney Parks!
Tell us something we don’t know about you…
I hate to admit it but I’m a huge Coronation Street fan. I haven’t missed an episode in years and always make sure I catch up if I’ve been away. I think I’m just so invested now after all this time that I can’t give it up…
