Manchester Metropolitan has been awarded a second succession Travel Choices ‘Gold’ standard for its continued commitment towards promoting sustainable travel.  Transport for Greater Manchester commended the University’s commitment and efforts in helping to improve the health and wellbeing of staff, reducing congestion and improving the air quality for everyone in Greater Manchester.

During April, the University is delighted to be hosting the 2018 Low Carbon vehicle partnership conference ‘Moving North: Reducing Transport Emission in the Northern Powerhouse’.   The event opens with a keynote address by the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham and will focus on the challenge of cutting carbon emissions and air pollution and seizing the business opportunities for automotive and fuel supply companies in the Northern Powerhouse that are being stimulated by the low carbon shift.

Manchester Metropolitan is currently 1st place in the People and Planet University league, based on its ethical and environmental performance and was the first University to receive the new and more challenging ISO14001:2015 standard. The University is part of the Triangulum project working with  Manchester City Council to transform its vehicle fleets and make significant energy savings, while demonstrating the power of the new innovations to help create economic growth.

The Conference and Events team hold the highest possible accreditation under the Green Tourism Business Scheme.  They actively support sustainable travel, raising awareness of the great public transport links, various citywide schemes and electric charging points and bike stores on campus, and even provide a carbon calculator on their website to help visitors measure and offset their emissions.
