The The Economist's Global Liveability Index 2022 has been released today, with Manchester not only retaining its status as the UK's most liveable city for the 11th year in a row, but also jumping 26 places up the ranking list to 28th globally.

Commenting on the index, Sheona Southern, managing director of Marketing Manchester said: “Manchester has once again been awarded the title of the most liveable city in the UK, ranking 28th in The Economist’s prestigious Global Liveability Index 2022.

“Having jumped 26 places from 54th last year, it's a promising indicator that Manchester’s reputation and status as a global city continues to develop in strength. This is measured by factors such as environment, healthcare, education, culture and infrastructure.

“Our cultural offering and live events sector is thriving, and we have seen the greatest influx of young people relocating to Manchester in recent years.

“In coming out on top in the UK every year since the index began in 2011, the ranking recognises Manchester as a fantastic city to live, with a robust night-time economy, a burgeoning cultural scene, and a dynamic food and drink offering. It's clear to see why an increasing number of people across the UK and throughout the globe are attracted to live, work, visit and meet here."
