Green Public Transport Options

Travel can account for up to 80% of an event’s CO2 emissions and therefore we encourage visiting delegates to travel by public transport where possible. Manchester is one of the best-connected and accessible cities in the UK, and because of its central location, is an outstanding choice for environmentally conscious events.

Getting to Manchester

By Train

With direct rail services from across the country, getting to Manchester by train couldn’t be easier. Manchester Piccadilly is one of three main stations in Manchester and offers direct services to other major UK cities. Rail travel in Greater Manchester is growing, with over 27 million passenger journeys a year and investment into modern trains which can carry hundreds of people per journey.

By Road

We encourage visiting delegates to car-share where popssible. Greater Manchester has more than 3,500 park and ride spaces for delegates who need to drive to their local Metrolink stop, train station or bus service.

By Plane

Attendees who must fly to the meeting will find that Manchester Airport has a range of projects aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the aviation sector. Passengers can now offset the carbon emissions from their flights in a new partnership with CarbonClick. The airport recently became the first UK airport to have a direct sustainable jet fuel supply.

Getting Around Manchester

Manchester on foot

Manchester is easily explored on foot, with a city centre that can be navigated in 20 minutes. Delegates will have easy access to conference venues, social events, restaurants, bars and attractions – all without the need for transport.

Free Bus

Delegates can use Manchester’s free ‘hop on, hop off’ service linking all of the main rail stations, hotels, shopping areas and business districts. The shuttle service is operates on three routes by a fleet of electric vehicles.

Tram

Manchester’s Metrolink network is the UK’s largest light rail network and is powered entirely by electricity produced by renewable energy.
