Hundreds of leading fashion educators and industry experts from all over the world will head to Manchester for a five-day event in April (8th-12th).
The IFFTI 2019 conference hosted by the Manchester Fashion Institute at Manchester Metropolitan University, features high-profile keynote speakers, including Caryn Franklin, fashion commentator and former co-editor of i-D magazine.
The International Fashion Education Institutions (IFFTI) is an international organisation for the advancement of education, research and development in fashion design, technology and business and related industries through mutual collaboration.
Manchester Met’s spectacular Benzie building will be the venue for the conference and will showcase an exhibition of 20 art and fashion pieces around the building.
The theme of IFFTI 2019 is FASHION: ID – a limitless proposition that has been designed to challenge, interrogate and stimulate, rather than mapping the limits to current (or even future) fashion identity. Academics presenting at the conference were invited to submit papers on subjects, which examine, redefine and challenge existing conventions, explore new thinking and technological evolution. Papers will address topical issues in the fashion industry including sustainability, the rise in plus size clothing and genderless fashion.
Other keynote speakers include Michael Atkin, aka Cheddar Gorgeous, a drag artist with a PhD in Social Anthropology; Katie Greenyer, Creative Director of Pentland Group; and the Director of Collection and Research at the National Galleries of Scotland, Chris Breward.
