He studied Business Engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and completed a PhD in Computer Science (Machine Learning & Optimization) at The University of Manchester.
Richard's research interests are in the field of data science and in particular in the development and application of optimization and machine learning techniques to real-world problems arising in areas such as healthcare, manufacturing, engineering, economics, sports, music, and forensics. Much of research has been funded by UK funding bodies (e.g. ESRC, EPSRC, Innovate UK) and industrial partners. He is a Member of the Editorial Board of several international journals, Vice-Chair of the IEEE CIS Bioinformatics and Bioengineering Technical Committee, Co-Founder of the IEEE CIS Task Force on Optimization Methods in Bioinformatics and Bioengineering, and contributes regularly to conference organisation and special issues as guest editors.
Prof Allmendinger acted as Programme Chair for the IDEAL Conference 2022, which took place 24-26 November 2022 at Manchester Conference Centre and Pendulum Hotel.
The International Conference on Intelligent Data Engineering and Automated Learning (IDEAL) is an annual international conference dedicated to emerging and challenging topics in intelligent data analysis, data mining and their associated learning systems and paradigms. The conference provides a unique opportunity and stimulating forum for presenting and discussing the latest theoretical advances and real-world applications in Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Data Analysis.
Richard also acted as General Chair for the prestigious IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CIBCB 2017). The annual conference, which took place at the INNSiDE by Melia Manchester, is a major technical event in the field of Computational Intelligence and its application to problems in biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, chemical informatics, bioengineering and related fields. The conference provides a global forum for academic and industrial scientists from a range of fields including computer science, biology, chemistry, medicine, mathematics, statistics, and engineering, to discuss and present their latest research findings from theory to applications.
Prof Allmendinger commented: “Marketing Manchester was highly recommended to me by a colleague to assist in the preparation of a bid for this major international conference.”
“Anthony and Angela took on this challenging job and exceeded all of my expectations! Both supported the competitive bidding process enthusiastically and professionally from beginning to end covering aspects such as venue selection, detailed planning of the conference budget, design of convincing and shiny proposal forms, price negotiations with hotels for conference delegates, and finally preparation of impressive slides for the bidding presentation!”
“Our proposal was accepted with flying colours, and we can't wait to host the conference. Thank you Marketing Manchester. Thank you Anthony and Angela!”
