World Climbing and the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) have today announced that Manchester, Great Britain will host a World Cup Series event in June 2027.

The event, which will include Lead, Speed and Para Climbing Lead, has been secured through collaboration between World Climbing, the BMC, Manchester City Council, and UK Sport.

Though specific dates and venue are still to be confirmed, the World Climbing Series Manchester 2027 will see the competition return to Great Britain for the first time since the IFSC Lead World Cup held in Edinburgh, Scotland in September 2022.

Victoria Braddock, Managing Director of Marketing Manchester

"The selection of Manchester to host this world-class climbing event in June 2027 marks a significant milestone in Manchester’s urban sports strategy. As the home of the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), it is only fitting that the national governing body brings such a high-profile international competition to its own doorstep.

Securing this event just one year ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Games provides a unique opportunity to showcase elite climbing and para-climbing. Hosting the competition in the newly expanded Albert Square will create an iconic urban backdrop, making the sport accessible to a wide audience in the public realm. This announcement reinforces Manchester’s standing as a global city of sport, promising a high-octane spectacle that will inspire the next generation while providing a substantial boost to the local economy.”
